In the afternoon, we went for a walk in the Sandburg Woods. Yes, we realized that event though it was a little chilly today, there were still mosquitoes out there. We did not see animals but we were learning to be Scientists; walking on the trail, being very quiet, and looking and listening to things around us. Thank you Ms Naomi for leading us.
Thank you for coming to our Welcome Back Night at Sandburg.
Happy Monday!
It was Picture Day today and a lot smiles.
We started the week of with 2 new literacy centers; the iPad center and Magnetic Letters. For Magnetic letters, we were just making our names using the letters. We will use it to help us with words and even sentences in the future. For iPad, we learned about how to take care of the iPad, how to use the headphone, how to walk with the iPad and the headphone.
We also started our I Can Read binder where we put poems, songs, and writings we know how to read in it and we can practice reading from it anytime.
In Music, we learned to use instruments and talked about low and high sounds.
We want to make sure our classroom is nice and clean and safe, so we started jobs today. Some friends helped with sweeping the floor, some helped with markers, some with washing tables.
To help us learn the names of our friends, we made a book. We will be bringing this book home to help use learn about our new friends in the classroom.
Mr. Thao showed us how to do quiet reading after lunch. Each friend would go get a little rug and two books, then go pick a quiet area in the room, and read or just relax and get ready for Math.
Below is the phonic chart we are working on for today. It is pretty easy! It will get more challenging as we continue on.
We started the letter "c" and its sound for the day. Each 1 or 2 days, we will be focusing on one letter sound. This is just a review for some friends and exposure to others. In the future we will focus more on these sounds.
Each friend gets to make his/her own letter of the day page in a book too. How cool is that?
We started our handwriting today with the lower case letter "c". To write the "c" we are using a path of movement language and goes like this "Around and open". Of course we will continue to practice writing that letter in the next few days.
To continue practicing using scissors and glue sticks, we made Davids.
We also explored two more Math Manipulatives: Polydrons and Unifix Cubes
Above, friends are trying to put together Polydrons.
Below, friends are stacking up Unifix cubes.
In REACH, we played a game where we walked around the room with paper plates on our heads.
